Child Support

Both parents are responsible for the support of their minor child.  Typically, the non-custodial parent will pay child support to the custodial parent (or the parent who has the child more often).  In Missouri, state guidelines have been established to compute child support based on both parents’ income.  Child support calculations can include additional costs such as the cost of maintaining health insurance, work-related expenses and extraordinary expenses.

There are also situations where child support may not be appropriate such as when both parents have equal custody of the minor child and have similar incomes.

Child support typically terminates at age 18, however, it can be extended in certain situations, such as when a child attends college or a vocational school or if the child suffers from certain disabilities.
