Child Custody

Child custody can be one of the most contested issues in a dissolution or paternity matter.  For many parents, the thought of not having their minor child with them at all times is difficult to grasp.  In Missouri, courts make child custody determinations by looking at the best interest of the minor child.  At times a guardian ad litem may be appointed as a representative for the minor child to help aid the court in its determination of what is in the best interest of the minor child.

Child custody is divided into physical custody and legal custody.  Legal custody deals with decision making matters such as decisions concerning religion, school and medical treatment.  Physical custody deals with who has physical custody of the minor child.
